In honour of La Poutine week, a worldwide celebration of cheesy fries, the animal welfare organization PETA released a list of Canada's top plant-based versions of the quintessential Canadian dish, and 麻豆精选's Naked Cafe has won the big cheese.
鈥淚t鈥檚 all gravy at Naked Cafe, which crafted a sumptuous cow-friendly poutine that curd鈥檔鈥檛 be beat,鈥� says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk.
In honour of being named the best vegan poutine in Canada, the Naked Cafe will be awarded a framed certificate from PETA, and bragging rights.
Other winners include MeeT in Victoria, B.C., Leopold鈥檚 Tavern in Winnipeg, NJ鈥檚 Kitchen in St. John鈥檚, NL and Odd Burger in Regina, SK.
The Naked Cafe's famous Market Poutine is made with seasoned fries covered in dairy-free mozzarella and meat-free gravy, tomato, purple cabbage, cucumber, creamy tahini, green onion, and black sesame.
The restaurant, located on Lawrence Avenue, was established in 2015 by three sisters. It now features a sit-down and take out restaurant menu as well as a coffee bar, happy hour and a monthly brunch buffet.
