As temperatures dropped well below zero across the Okanagan, restaurants and breweries around Penticton tried to warm things up with some chili.
The eighth annual "Loving Mugs" event was held at the Penticton Art Gallery on Feb. 5, with five different chili dishes taking home awards:
• People's Choice Award (best overall chili): Cannery Brewing's Wild Boar & Smoked Bacon Chili
• K.D. Lang Award (best vegetarian chili): Gratify's Mediterranean Chili
• Showmanship Award (best-looking chili): Highway 97 Brewing's Beer-braised chili
• Climate Changer Award ("beaniest" chili): Stillfood Bistro's Caliente Cantina chili
• Ring of Fire Award (spiciest chili): Palmer Kitchen & Spirits' Quinoa Chili
"Loving Mugs" challenges businesses every year to make their very own chili. Guests got to sample the dishes and take home a hand-crafted mug.
The art gallery also sent its congratulations to other participating chili dishes made by Angry Vegan, Kristine Lee on behalf of Penticton Art Gallery, Match Eatery Pasta Factory, Sociale and Theos.
"Thank you to the community, our hard-working volunteers, and our dedicated gallery staff! Cheers to another delicious night celebrating the art coming out of our local kitchens," the art gallery said in a social media post.
Also at the event, artisan bread was provided by Just Pies and Serious Breads and craft beer came from Cannery Brewing. Live music was performed by Daryl O'Neil.
