Okanagan College is offering the Sustainable Building Technology microcredential in Fall 2026 thanks to FortisBC.

Those interested in taking Okanagan College's (OC) Sustainable Building Technology diploma program now have a chance to complete and acceleration their school experience.

OC is now offering the a new and shorter Sustainable Building Technology microcredential, thanks to a collaborative effort between the college and FortisBC, who invested $495,000 into the program.

鈥淲e鈥檙e hoping to see this new, shorter program give flexibility to people so they can continue working in the industry while they are at the same time adding to their existing skills,鈥 said Ashley Lubyk, OC professor and chair of the current Sustainable Building Technology diploma program. 鈥淭his partnership with FortisBC is exciting because we鈥檙e able to tailor the microcredential to the type of training that is in-demand right now in the industry and will only grow in importance over the next decade.鈥

On top of the investment, OC and FortisBC's partnership will include other initiatives to support skilled-trade and other related programs at the college.

鈥淔ortisBC is committed to leading the transition to lower-carbon energy structures. Our customers need access to skilled building professionals who understand the importance of energy efficiency in construction, know how to achieve high-performance in buildings and are up to date on energy-saving technologies,鈥 said Juan Rincon, FortisBC conservation and energy management program manager. 鈥淐reating these new, targeted opportunities within its Sustainable Building Technology program demonstrates Okanagan College鈥檚 ongoing and innovative approach to developing leaders in this field, and we鈥檙e proud to offer our support.鈥

The microcredential is expected to be available in the Fall of 2026. OC is hosting virtual sessions to learn about the Sustainable Building Technology diploma program and more on Jan. 23 and Feb. 12. Anyone interested can register on Eventbrite.
