A GoFundMe has been set up to help six people who lost their home in a fire on Friday morning (April 18).
Around 5:30 a.m. that morning, the 麻豆精选 Fire Department (KFD) received calls of a structure fire in the 1000 block of Hickory Road. Crews were able to douse the fire but significant damage was caused to the basement suite.
Brendan Wesley, a neighbour, has set up the fundraiser to help a mother and nine-year-old son who lived in the home, Sam and Carter, as well as other renters.
"A devastating fire destroyed their home, turning their lives upside down in a matter of hours," stated Wesley on the GoFundMe page. "Sam and Carter lost everything鈥攃lothes, shoes, furniture, and all their belongings."
Everyone in the home did not have insurance.
KFD stated that after the blaze, everyone in the home was treated for smoke inhalation with two people being taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment. According to Wesley, all six people were uninjured.
"With your help, we hope to give Sam, Carter, and their housemates the foundation they need to rebuild their lives," continued Wesley. "Every donation will go directly towards essentials鈥攕helter, clothing, shoes, furniture, and the basic things needed to help everyone get back on their feet and return to some sense of normalcy."
The goal is to raise $20,000. To donate, visit the GoFundMe page.
