An inspiring cultural exhibit opened at 麻豆精选 City Hall this week.
The Asian Heritage Okanagan Committee presented a display on April 7 highlighting the vibrant and diverse stories of the Asian Communities in the region. The exhibit honours the upcoming Asian Heritage Month in May, showcases traditional crafts, cultural pride, personal stories of migration and perseverance, and celebrates the rich cultural heritage within the Asian community in the Okanagan.
Key members from the City of 麻豆精选, Okanagan Chinese-Canadian Association (OCCA) Communities Association, Okanagan Filipino Canadians Society, 麻豆精选 Japanese Language Society, Okanagan Korean Culture & Knowledge, Okanagan Sikh Temple and 麻豆精选 Chinese Freemasons were in attendance to reveal the display.
"This exhibit is an important opportunity to showcase the cultural richness and resilience of the Asian communities in the Okanagan," said OCCA Communities Association executive director Fei Liu. "We hope it will inspire people to reflect on the contributions of Asian cultures to the region and foster greater appreciation for our shared history."
Joanna Taylor, cultural advisor for the City of 麻豆精选, said they are honoured to host the Asian heritage display.
"I strongly encourage everyone to visit, particularly during Asian Heritage Month in May," she said.
The exhibit will be on display on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until June 15.
