A closing event is being held at Westbank Lions Hall on Feb. 2

Unplug and Play Week is in its 11th year with Project Literacy in Â鶹¾«Ñ¡.

The week, coinciding with Family Literacy Week, started off with some free family fun at Parkinson Recreation Centre on Jan. 26.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., children and their families enjoyed live entertainment including a bubble show, participated in various games and crafts, and took the time to learn about some wildlife with the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

Project Literacy Executive Director Paul Zuurbier said the new addition to the week is a closing event on Feb. 2 at the Westbank Lions Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Throughout the week various community organizations are hosting activities that don't involve screens like phones, tablets, or TVs.

"It's important to not spend time on a device and spend time together as a family," Zuurbier said. "This is really what Unplug and Play week is all about, to give parents with young kids a chance to connect with them in interesting and exciting ways, do some activities they wouldn't normally do, see some live entertainment, and just remember that there's a lot going on off screen, and there always will be."
