PHOTOS: Sicamous Fire Rescue welcomes new leader with 1st ever Fire Chief for a Day

Avery Sanche, 9, will 'maybe' be a firefighter one day

Parkview Elementary student Avery Sanche, 9, got quite a promotion March 4 as Sicamous Fire Rescue's first ever Fire Chief for a Day (Night).

After winning a contest to create the best fire escape plan for her family home, Avery donned the chief's hat and conducted Tuesday night's weekly practice. Her first official act was to inspect the crew, which passed muster, then sign and deliver the night's lesson plan for training.

Avery, along with her two siblings Kennedy and Jase, and parents Jorden and Raegen, also got to tour the training room, fire trucks and the other inner workings of the department. Though the young fire chief clearly enjoyed the evening, it might not have been enough to set her career path as she answered "maybe" when asked if she'll be a firefighter one day.

Though she turned the chief's hat and the practise over to Fire Chief Lorenzo De Arcangelis, Avery did leave with a chief's badge, a department ball cap, the lesson plan and and fun stories of her time in a leadership role as Fire Chief for a Day, or night as the case may be.
