Ah, cupcakes. A fashionable, delicious God of the dessert family.
Already delectable and enjoyable, cupcakes made by a Vernon-based organization add another layer of happiness.
North Okanagan Youth and Family Services Society (NOYFSS) is bringing back its highly popular Compliment Cupcakes for Pink Shirt Day Wednesday, Feb. 26.
The vanilla and chocolate cupcakes available by donation contain compliments such as "Thank You For Listening," "The World is Brighter Because of You," and "We Believe in You."
The cupcakes will be at NOYFSS (3100-32nd Ave.) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
"Grab yourself a tasty treat complete with a special message just for you," said Vicki Proulx, NOYFSS director of fund development and communications.
NOYFSS has been adding compliments to the cupcakes for a number of years now. Pre-orders of the snack have sold out for 2025.
"Kindness is contagious and something that benefits us all," said Proulx. "Complimenting others is an easy way to show kindness...Genuine compliments build relationships, improve communication, motivate people, and boost one’s self-esteem and self-confidence."
Money raised from the sale of the cupcakes go to NOYFSS' programs aimed at youth, including anti-bullying.
Pink Shirt Day – Feb. 28 – began in 2007 in Nova Scotia after a new student at a school was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. A pair of Grade 12 students bought 50 pink shirts and distributed them to classmates. With that act of kindness, Pink Shirt Day was born.
