The Oceola Fish and Game Club hosted a sold out banquet on Feb. 22 to raise funds for the club.

Okanagan Forest Task Force President Kane Blake attended and was honoured as Lake Country's Citizen of the Year

"His impact is undeniable," said the presenter of the award, explaining Blake's dedication to cleaning up the Okanagan backcountry. "This year alone he extinguished 24 fires and removed a staggering 313,000 pounds of garbage from the bush."

Blake took the microphone to thank the crowd for the honour.

"Since I started this group eight years ago we've removed just shy of 1.2 million pounds of garbage," Blake said. "We're going to be around for a long time to come."

Blake encouraged people to check out the group's website OkanaganForestTaskForce.com to learn about volunteer opportunities or sign up for their newsletter.

The 64th annual fundraising banquet was held at Winfield Memorial Hall and included dinner, games, auctions, and prizes.
