Roughly five weeks before the federal election, the first all-candidates forum for the Vernon-Lake Country-Monashee riding has been announced.
The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce is hosting the forum at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Thursday, April 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the chamber announced Wednesday. It will be a chance for residents to get to know the candidates in their riding before they head to the polls on April 28.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and attendees will have the opportunity to meet and greet the candidates in the foyer before the forum starts.
There are currently five candidates in the riding. Those candidates are Scott Anderson for the Conservative Party of Canada, federal NDP candidate Leah Main, Anna Warwick Sears for the Liberals, Blair Visscher of the Green Party of Canada, and Arsh Dhillon for the People's Party of Canada.
All of the candidates that have been announced for Vernon-Lake Country-Monashee have been invited to take part in the forum.
鈥淭his is an important opportunity for our community to hear directly from the individuals seeking to represent them in Ottawa,鈥 said Dan Proulx, general manager of the chamber.
鈥淲e are pleased to collaborate with the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society to present this forum. It鈥檚 vital that voters have access to information about the candidates and their party platforms so they can make informed decisions and fully engage in the democratic process ahead of the election on April 28.鈥
The forum will include opening remarks from each candidate, moderated questions and, if time permits, a Q&A portion with submissions from the audience.
Admission to the forum is free and a live stream will also be provided for those who wish to tune in virtually.
