Efforts to save Childhood Connections Okanagan Family and Childcare Society are ramping up.

After four decades in the community, it is facing closure after not having a government contract renewed through a request for proposal.

Tia Faarup started a petition on change.org that will eventually be presented to the provincial government.

鈥淭he current state of childcare services in our community is already in crisis mode and now the best, most favourable centre that helps families and childcare providers navigate this gruelling situation, is being forced to close their doors,鈥 she writes in an email.

Faarup was also involved in efforts to save Starbright Children鈥檚 Development Centre when it faced closure in 2023.

鈥淢any of the voices that rallied around Starbright are the same families that are now willing to stand united again to support a 40-year-old member of our community, shouting concerns and asking the government to listen and respond,鈥 she added.

The community is invited to a rally on Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m. outside Childhood Connections at 1505 Harvey Avenue.
