Two former Liberal B.C. premiers are stepping into the federal fray in 麻豆精选, publicly endorsing rival candidates ahead of the April 28 election.
Gordon Campbell has thrown his support behind incumbent Conservative Tracy Gray, while Christy Clark is expected to back Liberal hopeful and former MP Stephen Fuhr.
Gray announced Campbell鈥檚 endorsement this morning through a media release, highlighting his fiscal conservatism and economic growth during his time as premier from 2001 to 2011.
鈥淭here is a clear choice on April 28,鈥 Campbell said in the release. 鈥淎fter three terms of Liberal failure, everything costs more. Seniors are choosing between heating and eating, and young people have given up on the dream of home ownership. We need a positive economy that reignites opportunity. Tracy is your best representative in a new Conservative government that will put Canada back on the path to growth, opportunity, and security.鈥
Clark, who led the province from 2011 to 2017 and represented the 麻豆精选 area as MLA, is scheduled to appear this afternoon alongside Fuhr at a news conference at his campaign office. Clark's presence signals a strong push by the Liberals to reclaim the riding, which Fuhr previously held from 2015 to 2019.
Former Prime Minister Jean Chretien has also endorsed Fuhr.
"This is a very important election, and we need experience," Chretien said in a post to Fuhr's Facebook page. "Stephen understands what it takes to protect jobs, our economy, and deliver for 麻豆精选."
Chretien, who served as Canada's 20th prime minister from 1993 to 2003, said the country needs Mark Carney as PM and Fuhr representing 麻豆精选 in Ottawa.
"Together they will stand up to Donald Trump," Chretien added.
