An explosive device that shut down 鶹ѡ’s major highway on February 27, was considered to be sophisticated.

The device was found by a pedestrian who was walking by a strip mall along Harvey Avenue.

The pedestrian called the police and after approximately seven hours of road closures and the evacuation of nearby businesses, the IED was “made safe,” by B.C.’s specialized Explosive Disposal Unit.

The Disposal Unit used a robot and neutralized the explosive at approximately 7 p.m. on Feb. 27.

The RCMP confirmed that the device had the capacity to detonate and was sophisticated.
