As youth-related incidents increase in 麻豆精选, RCMP are working to address the route causes behind the uptick.

According to police, incidents have mostly occurred in the downtown or by Orchard Park Mall and include social disorder and underage drug and alcohol consumption.

"Our Community Youth Safety Officers (CYSO) have been working collaboratively with the school district to share information and develop the necessary messaging to identified youth and their parents,鈥 said Inspector Jason Charney. 鈥淲e are also working with other partner agencies to identify the root cause of some of these issues, including increased access to youth programs, resources and enhanced outreach efforts.鈥

One of the incidents included a 13-year-old who was lured to Gyro Beach and then attacked and beaten by a group of teenagers on Sept. 27, 2024. The incident was filmed and posted to social media. Five youths were eventually arrested about the incident, which left the 13-year-old with significant injuries and a concussion.

Specific areas have been identified for RCMP as places to increase patrols, in order to address any additional concerns and intervene lawfully when necessary.

鈥淲hile we strive to build relationships with our youth and provide the safest environment for all members of our community, these are the types of incidents we simply have zero tolerance for and are making this very clear,鈥 said Charney.

RCMP are also encouraging parents and guardians to speak to their children about illegal substances and proper behaviour in public spaces. Parents should also know where their children are and know what activities they are engaging in.

Anyone who sees any incidents involving youth is to contact the 麻豆精选 RCMP at 250-762-3300.
