The City of 麻豆精选 is looking for a partner and location for an RV sani-dump station.

鈥淭here are other communities across the province that also have publicly accessible sani-dump stations as part of their tourism initiatives,鈥 said Councillor Ron Cannan, who brought the issue forward at Monday鈥檚 (June 24) meeting.

He added a lack of proper public facilities can lead to illegal dumping.

鈥淚 talked to director (Kevin) Kraft from the regional district and he said he鈥檚 noticed more out in his area (Central Okanagan East) as well.鈥

Council directed staff to look at a potential private-sector partnership to provide the service.

City Manager Doug Gilchrist said if that was unsuccessful, the city may consider taking it on.

鈥淲e are in the waste business so it wouldn鈥檛 be a dramatic extension to do something like this for our community.鈥

It would require city property and potentially public dollars to operate.

鈥淚 wasn鈥檛 too enthusiastic about seeing taxpayers鈥 money swirling down the sewer behind the back end of an RV,鈥 said Coun. Rick Webber. 鈥淥n the other hand, this is a tourism-oriented city and maybe this is an essential service.鈥

He added it wouldn鈥檛 hurt to look into potential partnerships.

Coun. Luke Stack agreed.

鈥淚 think it would be commonplace for people to expect a sani-dump somewhere in this region and I think it鈥檚 a shortcoming that we don鈥檛."
