The 麻豆精选 Rockets have signed Owen Hayden, their first-round pick (ninth overall) from the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
鈥淚 am excited to sign with the Rockets,鈥 Hayden said. 鈥溌槎咕 is such a great city and the organization has developed so many amazing defencemen, including Shea Weber and Tyler Myers.鈥
At just 15 years old, the 6-foot-6, 194-pound defenceman has already made a name for himself. Hayden led the Calgary NWCAA U15 AAA Flames (AEHL) defense in scoring this season, racking up 24 points (1 goal, 23 assists) and 40 penalty minutes over 30 games.
In the playoffs, he added another eight penalty minutes in four games.
鈥淥wen is a puck-moving defender who utilizes his size and reach to disrupt plays,鈥 said Rockets assistant general manager Curtis Hamilton. 鈥淲e are excited to welcome Owen and his family to the Rockets.鈥
The WHL Scholarship provides players with a year of post-secondary education for each season they play in the WHL.
The scholarship covers tuition, fees, and textbooks, allowing players to attend universities, colleges, technical institutes, and trade schools.
