麻豆精选 Mayor Tom Dyas is back on the job.
鈥淚 am pleased to announce that starting today I will be resuming my duties as mayor,鈥� Days said in a statement. 鈥淚 would like to thank everyone for their calls, emails, texts, social media comments, flowers, plants, cards, and prayers. Your individual messages and well wishes during this time have meant the world to me and have greatly helped my recovery.鈥�
It has been over a month since the mayor was sidelined by his initial injury.
鈥淚 was diagnosed with a vertebral artery dissection, meaning an artery in the back of my head had split and was beginning to cause a clot,鈥� Dyas said. This condition typically occurs in people under 45 years old and is quite rare, happening in about 1 in 100,000 people, with even greater odds as we age.鈥�
Dyas said the condition was caused by a series of sneezes while driving to city hall the morning of Feb. 4. His condition quickly deteriorated and he drove to 麻豆精选 General Hospital (KGH) where he was quickly assessed.
鈥淚 can鈥檛 believe that after all the years of sports and physical activity, it was a sneeze that knocked me down,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 am so deeply grateful and blessed for the care and dedication of the entire team at KGH. I cannot thank them enough for their exceptional efforts during the week I was in the hospital. I also want to thank Sandy and my family for all their love and support during this time.鈥�
The mayor also thanked Deputy Mayor Luke Stack for stepping up while he was recovering. 鈥淎nd to all of council and the senior leadership team at city hall for their dedication in keeping city business moving forward seamlessly.鈥�
Days added that he is still on the mend, but his focus will continue to be on city business.
