Makeover for 麻豆精选's Parkinson Rec Centre to start this spring

A key part of the project is incorporating Indigenous perspectives

After a decade of planning, 麻豆精选鈥檚 long-awaited Parkinson Recreation Centre (PRC) redevelopment is finally set to begin construction this spring.

City council approved funding for the Building a Stronger 麻豆精选 initiative in 2023, and on March 10, staff will update council on the project鈥檚 progress.

Over the past nine months, a team of 10 partner organizations has been fine-tuning the design, construction plans, and schedule. The revamped facility will be a hub for fitness, recreation, and community gatherings.

Indoor Features:

  • Three full-sized gyms
  • Walking/running track
  • Fitness centre
  • 25-metre pool & leisure pool
  • Community kitchen
  • Multi-purpose rooms & gathering spaces
  • Childcare & youth areas
  • ORL Express Library

Outdoor Upgrades:

  • Six sports fields, including 24 pickleball and four tennis courts
  • Multi-sport box for hockey, lacrosse, and dry-land training
  • Outdoor fitness circuit designed for seniors
  • Accessible children鈥檚 playgrounds
  • Cycle track linking to the Okanagan Rail Trail
  • Multi-use pathways connected to Mill Creek

A key part of the project is incorporating Indigenous perspectives, ensuring the facility reflects the cultural heritage of the syilx/Okanagan people. Community members, Elders, and leaders have been consulted throughout the planning process.
