Vernon and Central Okanagan search and rescue teams responded to a serious snowmobile accident at Hunters Range Friday, Feb. 21.
The rescue was helped by a few search and rescue members being in the right place at the right time.
Three Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) members were already snowmobiling at Hunters Range Friday when they were called to assist at the scene of the accident, COSAR said in a statement Saturday.
Two members with advanced medical training provided care to the injured rider, while a third search and rescue member called 911 and coordinated rescue efforts.
Medics assessed and stabilized the rider before helping to build two fires to keep him warm while awaiting an evacuation toboggan.
COSAR thanked the sledders at the main Hunters Range cabin who donated clothing and blankets for the injured sledder, as well as Vernon Search and Rescue who transported the rider down the hill.
