West 麻豆精选 City Hall, which opened in May, is set to undergo further upgrades.
The building, originally budgeted at $18 million, came in significantly over budget at $22.79 million. Construction delays stretched the timeline for months, and the city was named in a civil lawsuit related to the project in November 2023.
The city is planning to spend $115,000 on acoustic improvements for council chambers and $85,000 to design parking lot upgrades and expansion. This week, staff will ask council for early approval in the 2025 budget. Both projects will be funded through the city鈥檚 capital reserves. In addition to these upgrades, another $227,920 has been requested to replace council chambers' equipment under the Information Services budget.
Other requests include:
- $700,000 to replace the roofs on Fire Halls #33 and #34;
- $18,000 to replace a furnace and $290,000 for locker upgrades at Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre;
- $700,000 for a roof replacement and $600,000 for a condenser at Jim Lind Arena.
All funding for these projects would come from city reserves.
Council will review the draft 2025 financial plan, which includes a proposed 8.3 per cent property tax increase, during meetings on December 18-19.
