A refurbished Ogopogo sculpture is one of many park-related projects the City of Â鶹¾«Ñ¡ plans to tackle in 2025.
The city has allocated $29 million for infrastructure improvements, and $21 million for parkland purchases this year for a total of $50 million. That is $6 million more than in 2024.
With the increased budget for 2025, several projects are planned:
- Other work in Kerry Park, where the 65-year old Ogopogo (N’Ha-a-ikt or ‘Lake Serpent Spirit’) statue is located, includes a re-faced masonry park entrance with seat walls and signing and a new fountain basin for the Sails;
- Glenmore Recreation Park will see a new full-sized soccer field, tennis and pickleball courts, a skate spot, fitness areas, and a picnic space;
- Rutland Recreation Park will undergo major upgrades, including two lit artificial turf fields, expanded pathways, improved parking, and a revamped dog park and community garden;
- Mission Recreation Park will introduce a central plaza, youth park, and a new playground, enhancing connectivity and usability;
- Summit Park will be redesigned to integrate a reservoir expansion, with added recreational features such as table tennis, tic-tac-toe, and scenic seating areas.
Among the notable acquisitions in 2024 was Truswell Park, a two-acre waterfront property at the mouth of Mission Creek, DeHart Park, and improvements at Kirschner Mountain Park, Knox Mountain First Lookout, and several more parks throughout the city.
