The first council meeting available for public attendance was held at the new West 鶹ѡ City Hall on Tuesday (May 28) night.
“Our first meeting in a proper council chambers feels good,” said Mayor Gord Milsom.
Since the city was incorporated in 2007, successive councils have met in several different buildings until a temporary home was found at the Mount Bourcherie Community Centre (MBCC) in 2009.
“Our first meeting as a city council was in the Lions Hall,” Milsom explained. “We certainly come a long way since then.”
Over the last several years, meetings have been held in a portable next to the MBCC.
“It’s been a long haul but we’ve got the perfect location,” he said. “It was worth the wait.”

It is also home to the West 鶹ѡ branch of the Okanagan Regional Library which is scheduled to open on June 5.
“It’s truly a gathering place,” said Milsom.
MP and MLA offices as well as ICBC and ServiceBC kiosks are also housed in the new city hall.
“To have all these government services under one roof is such a benefit that we never thought of years ago,” said the mayor.
