As the temperature drops, the need for winter clothing increases among those sheltering outdoors.
A mutual aid collective in 麻豆精选 called Solidarity Sundays delivers essential supplies to those who are experiencing unsheltered homelessness at the city-maintained encampment on Weddel Street 鈥� which is referred to colloquially as Tent City 鈥� on a weekly basis. In the midst of a cold snap which is chilling the province, the collective is asking people in 麻豆精选 to donate winter gear to those in need.
Built on the principles of mutual aid, Solidarity Sundays relies entirely on donations of funds and essentials from community members.
Volunteers with the mutual aid collective have been delivering food, harm reduction supplies, and other essential items to people living at Tent City since 2022.
With cold temperatures and precipitation in the forecast, the need for cold weather gear has surged, said the collective to Capital News. There are currently more than 100 people living at Tent City in 麻豆精选.
"Any warm gear is appreciated, especially larger men's clothing and jackets/sweaters," said Solidarity Sundays.
The collective uses Anarchy Coffee Roasters on Baron Road in 麻豆精选 as a drop-off site, but people can also message Solidarity Sundays on Instagram to organize a donation.
People are also encouraged to donate money via etransfer at solidaritysun@gmail.com or Patreon.
"For every $2 received in donations, Solidarity Sundays is able to provide a beef and cheese burrito, water, and hot chocolate to one of our unhoused neighbours."
