The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) has issued a water quality advisory for the Star Place water system in the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area.
The reason is increased turbidity in the water system source, primarily due to the annual snowpack melt, also known as freshet.
While not necessarily harmful, high turbidity levels can indicate the presence of contaminants or microorganisms in the water, which can pose health risks, especially to vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems.
It is recommended that customers adhere to guidelines provided by Interior Health, particularly individuals who fall into high-risk categories.
As a precaution, all water intended for consumption purposes, including drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages, ice, or brushing teeth, should be boiled for at least one minute.
Alternatively, residents may choose to use a safe alternative to tap water, such as bottled or distilled water.
The advisory will remain in effect until further notice, pending ongoing testing to ensure water quality meets the acceptable standards outlined in the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines.
The RDCO will continue to update residents as new information becomes available.
