West 麻豆精选 residents have supported borrowing up to $8 million to partially fund the Fire Hall #32 Replacement Project.
Results from the Alternative Approval Process (AAP), which began Feb. 20, indicated that 68 eligible elector response forms were received at city hall before the 4:30 p.m. March 21 deadline.
That is far less than the 10 per cent of eligible elector responses required (2,810 of approximately 28,098 electors) to reject the project.
There were eight invalid forms received, due to incomplete responses (name, address and/or signature), duplicate responses, and elector ineligibility.
Council can now consider approval of long-term borrowing.
The city will develop the next stage of the project, including an opportunity for public input into the detailed design of the new Fire Hall.
The total cost to replace the building is $14.3 million.
Other funding will come from reserve funds ($3.8 million), parks development cost charges ($1.18 million), Growing Communities Fund ($1.17 million), and $150,000 from developer contributions. Borrowing up to $8 million will not result in new taxes for residents.
The new Fire Hall will be built at 860 Anders Road, just down the street from its current location on Ollala Road.
Background information about the AAP is available on the City of 麻豆精选 website.
