A man from West 麻豆精选 is currently on trial in the B.C. Supreme Court after allegedly shooting a shotgun near the head of an unarmed woman in his home.
Derek Larson is charged with assault with a weapon, weapons possession and firearm discharge after an altercation that took place in his home in West 麻豆精选 on Dec. 10, 2021.
The woman that Larson is alleged to have assaulted took the stand as a witness in 麻豆精选 court for three days, beginning on Feb. 20.
Due to safety and privacy concerns, the name and identity of the witness will not be published. She will be referred under the pseudonym Jane Doe.
"He was holding the gun up at me," said Doe. "I was in disbelief. I didn't think it was loaded."
She told the court that she and Larson had been in an argument before he went and got his shotgun. She was aware that there were guns in the home and that Larson was a gun owner and had been to firing ranges but said she never imagined that he would point a gun at her.
"I thought that he was being potentially careless and trying to scare me. I didn't think it was loaded," said Doe.
She said that Larson was standing a few feet away from her with the 12 gauge shotgun pointed at her head and chest area. She said that when she moved away from him, the gun remained trained on her.
"I said just f***ing shoot me then," said Doe. She explained that she was anxious, and angry and did not believe that Larson was actually pointing a loaded gun at her head.
She said he then pumped the gun, moved it up and to the right and discharged the weapon.
"I felt the bullet go right past my right temple."
She said that immediately her ears began ringing and she was overcome with the stench of what she believed to have been gunpowder. She was not physically hit with the shotgun shell.
Doe immediately grabbed her phone and called 911.
"He was saying you made me do this, you made me shoot at you," said Doe.
Larson was arrested on the front lawn of his West 麻豆精选 home.
The nine-day trial is scheduled to continue until Friday, Feb. 28. Larson has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is expected to take the stand.
