The South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation is calling for donations to help reach the end of the $10 million fundraising campaign for local cancer care.

The campaign has reached the last million towards upgrades for the oncology department at the Penticton Regional Hospital.

The foundation is making an urgent appeal with the estimated opening of the expanded unit in the summer of 2025.

"This project represents a significant step forward for healthcare in our region,鈥 said Ian Lindsay, CEO of the SOS Medical Foundation. "Given that 1-in-2 Canadians will develop some form of cancer, the necessity for this Clinic is undeniable. This new unit will provide the care, comfort, and dignity that every patient deserves.鈥

The foundation has raised over $9 million since the expansion of the oncology department was announced in October of 2022.

The upgrades will double the size of the previous clinic, with more space for treatment and private consultation rooms and more than double the number of nursing staff, along with new up-to-date equipment to better serve the regional community.

The goal is to allow residents of the South Okanagan and Similkameen to receive better cancer care closer to home, instead of having to travel to 麻豆精选 or the Lower Mainland. "

鈥淭hanks to the overwhelming generosity of this community, we鈥檝e made remarkable progress,鈥 Lindsay said. 鈥淏ut we鈥檙e not there yet. This last $1 million is needed to finish this project. Every donation will directly impact patients and their families, ensuring they can face the challenges of cancer with the strength of their community behind them.鈥
