When the GolfBC Championship tees off at Gallagher鈥檚 Canyon June 12, the event will be about more than just who plays the best.
The organizers have announced a 鈥渟ignificant鈥� portion of the proceeds from this year鈥檚 event鈥攚hich runs June 12 to 18鈥攁re going to be donated Red Cross 麻豆精选 flood relief.
The Mackenzie Tour PGA Tour Canada GolfBC Championship made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.
鈥淲e want to demonstrate our support for the community in this time of need by giving something back from the tournament and our title sponsor GolfBC,鈥� said tournament director Hugh Vassos.
鈥淎s a professional golf tournament that relies on hundreds of volunteers, generous sponsors, and the support of thousands of golf fans; this is the right thing to do.鈥�
Rita Rennie, GolfBC director of marketing said the fundamental belief upon which the Chan Family Foundation鈥擥olfBC鈥檚 charitable arm鈥攊s built, is the spirit of giving back to the community and the importance of helping others.
鈥淲e are pleased to continue supporting the B.C. Cancer Foundation as the GolfBC Championship鈥檚 designated charity beneficiary, however with the devastation caused by the current flooding in the 麻豆精选 area, we have decided to direct part proceeds of our fundraising initiatives at this year鈥檚 event to aid the Red Cross 麻豆精选 flood relief efforts,鈥� said Rennie.
Scott Pritchard, vice-president of the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada said the GolfBC Championship has made philanthropy a major priority and it has become one of the most charitable events on the Mackenzie Tour.
鈥淪o it鈥檚 no surprise they would want to direct funds to such a noble cause. It鈥檚 an important part of the Mackenzie Tour鈥檚 mission to make a positive impact in every community where we play and the GolfBC Championship is certainly establishing itself as a leader in this area.鈥�
