The Chase east four-laning project is cruising on budget and on time.
The Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MOTT) has public updates throughout construction, announcing any expected changes as work progresses, but thus far has reported it within anticipated parameters.
"The Chase four-laning project is scheduled to be completed in 2025," MOTT said in an email to the Observer, adding that the Chase West section is complete, and the east portion is expected to be finished later this year.
"Stabilization work near the new overpass will continue until the end of the project."
The ministry added that financials are on track as well, with overages anticipated.
"The total project cost remains unchanged at $220.2 million, and the project will be delivered within that budget."
In an update on the website, MOTT advised area residents of an upcoming change in work, with construction along Highway 1 will shift to the north side of the highway adjacent to village properties, which is expected to start mid-April. Traffic will be redirected to the newly-constructed highway to allow for work on the Brooke Drive roundabout and associated highway ramps.
The ministry also advised there may periodically be increased construction-related noise and vibration over the next six months during general work hours on Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"We recognize that highway construction activities are noisy and appreciate your patience as we work to complete the project as quickly as possible," the notice states. "Due to the nature of the work, noise and vibration is unavoidable; however, crews will regularly water-spray the construction site to manage dust."
