Kindergarten students at Wiltse Elementary School in Penticton have raised $1,000 for health care.
The three Kindergarten classes at the school raised the money for the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation, to support the oncology centre upgrade at the Penticton Regional Hospital.
The initiative was inspired by a six-year-old girl named Lyla, whose fundraising efforts last year raised more than $8,000 for the clinic, in honour of her cousin.
This year, the Kindergarten students hosted a bake sale, selling homemade treats to raise the funds.
鈥淭hese incredible young students remind us that generosity has no age limit,鈥 said Ian Lindsay, chief executive officer at the medical foundation.
鈥淭heir kindness and effort will directly contribute to enhanced cancer care for patients and families in the South Okanagan Similkameen.鈥
The oncology clinic is set to open at the hospital this summer, providing patients in the South Okanagan Similkameen with cancer care close to home.
Others who want to donate to the oncology centre are asked to visit www.sosmedicalfoundation.com.
