The man accused of a 2022 murder involving a body that was left in Okanagan Lake has now applied to be released on bail.
Wyne Zablan was charged with first-degree murder after a man named Fung Sheng Lau was found dead in Okanagan Lake near the Shelter Bay Marina on July 29, 2022.
After Lau鈥檚 body was found, the RCMP asked for the public鈥檚 assistance in identifying the victim. Police described the victim as a man of Asian ethnicity, between 20-40 years old and of average height.
Zablan was arrested shortly after Lau was found dead and has remained in custody since.
Details involving the incident that transpired surrounding Lau鈥檚 death are protected under publication bans and cannot be published.
However, RCMP previously told the public that a vehicle was used in the incident that resulted in Lau鈥檚 death.
Zablan attended his bail hearing in person on April 8. He wore a red sweat suit from the Okanagan Correctional Facility and has black hair and a full beard.
Justice Betton told the court that he will enter his decision on Zablan鈥檚 application for bail on April 11.
Zablan鈥檚 case will be tried by a jury. The trial is scheduled to begin on Jan. 20, 2025, in a 麻豆精选 B.C. Supreme courtroom.
