Two of Penticton's four operational beach concession stands could have new owners this summer, including the iconic Peach on Lakeshore Drive.

On Feb. 11, city council approved the launch of a competitive process to seek operators for the Skaha East and Peach concession stands.

"The process would need to commence immediately in order to have proponents secured for the 2025 season," said Sheri Raposo, land administrator at the city.

Raposo says the city is seeking to secure an operator for a term of between three and five years.

Vallarta Fiesta Grill is the most recent operator of the Skaha East location, situated along the southern Penticton beach at 3885 South Main St. The city is responsible for the nearby public washrooms.

Family Squeezed Lemonade, meanwhile, has operated out of the Peach since 2022. It is located at 185 Lakeshore Dr. at Okanagan Beach.

"To ensure an open competitive environment, the city鈥檚 practice is to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for concession operators," reads a report submitted to council. "The intent is for the RFP to be issued and awarded in time for the operators to commence operations by May 1, 2025."

It added that the cost to the city for each concession is around $2,500 per year. That covers maintenance, repairs to the building鈥檚 exterior, HVAC, and city-owned equipment.

Other related stands in Penticton include the Sudbury Beach and Skaha Main concessions.
