The SOS Cafe in the Penticton Regional Hospital is donating five years of profits, $400,000, to support the campaign to upgrade the oncology department.

The SOS Caf茅 at the Penticton Regional Hospital donated $400,000, profits from he last five years, to support the campaign to upgrade the hospital's oncology department.

鈥淲e are incredibly grateful for the SOS Caf茅鈥檚 ongoing dedication to our Foundation and to the community,鈥 said Ian Lindsay, CEO of the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation. 鈥淭heir generosity highlights the incredible impact that local organizations can have on healthcare advancements, and this commitment will truly make a difference in the lives of oncology patients and their families when the clinic opens in June.鈥

The donation puts the foundation closer to their $10 million goal, with over $9 million raised since the expansion of the oncology department was announced in October of 2022.

The upgrades will double the size of the previous clinic, with more space for treatment and private consultation rooms and more than double the number of nursing staff, along with new up-to-date equipment to better serve the regional community.

The SOS Caf茅 is a vital part of the SOS Medical Foundation鈥檚 mission. Operated by two dedicated staff members and supported by over 40 volunteers each week, the caf茅 ensures that 100 per cent of its profits go back to the SOS Medical Foundation.

鈥淲e are honoured to provide support to the Foundation with this donation,鈥 said James Bryan, cafe manager. 鈥淎s a community-driven organization, we rely heavily on the dedication of our volunteers to keep the cafe running. There鈥檚 an ongoing need for more helping hands, and we鈥檙e always eager to welcome new team members. If you want to volunteer please email James at James.Bryan@interiorhealth.ca鈥

The goal of the campaign is to allow residents of the South Okanagan and Similkameen to receive better cancer care closer to home, instead of having to travel to 麻豆精选 or the Lower Mainland.
