Princeton sees slight increase in property crimes

Overall figures are similar to 2023 policing statistics

The amount of activity for the Princeton RCMP detachment in 2024 was similar to the 2023 figures, according to figures from the detachment.

Throughout the year, police received 2,036 calls for service, a three per cent increase from the 1,980 calls for service the detachment received in 2023.

However, the fourth quarter of the year was noticeably busier, with 620 calls for service, a 40 per cent increase from the 444 calls for service in 2023.

Violent crimes for the year were close to the 2023 figures, with 119 incidents in 2024, compared with 117 in 2023.

There were 56 assaults, down from 60 in 2023. Sex offence figures fell from 23 in 2023 to 13 in 2024. Intimate partner violence figures also dropped, with 19 incidents reported in 2024, down from 24 in 2023.

The number of property crimes in Princeton increased slightly in 2024 from the 2023 figures, with 225 incidents compared to 208 incidents. This is an eight per cent increase.

While shoplifting, auto thefts and thefts from vehicles were all down, incidents of mischief to property rose from 48 incidents in 2023 to 68 incidents in 2024. 

In the fourth quarter of the year, there were 21 incidents of mischief to property, compared to 11 in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Policing statistics from the RCMP are compiled and released on a quarterly basis.
