With over $28 million invested in infrastructure projects in 2025, the City of Vernon wants to hear from its residents.
The city is hosting a capital works open house on Thursday, March 6, for residents to ask questions about the large-scale projects that are occurring in the community. No RSVP is required, and the session will run from 4:30-6:30 p.m. from the Vernon Recreation Centre Auditorium.
According to the city, these capital projects are "essential to maintaining the city鈥檚 current needs while ensuring the long-term viability of key infrastructure."
Projects include extending sidewalks and active transportation networks, improving roads and drainage systems, and enhancing Vernon鈥檚 parks. A key focus is addressing infrastructure that has exceeded its existing capacity while managing the replacement of end-of-life assets.
鈥淲ith Vernon鈥檚 continued growth and the need to replace city infrastructure, these improvements are crucial to meeting the needs of our residents today,鈥 said Mayor Victor Cumming. 鈥淏y investing in lifecycle replacements and upgrading existing infrastructure, we ensure reliability, creating a stronger, more connected community and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.鈥
Council recently adopted the 2025 budget and five-year financial plan, which included funding for 27 capital projects which include new roundabouts at Pleasant Valley Road/39th Avenue and Phoenix Drive/Silver Star Road, construction of a new airport taxiway apron, replacement of playground equipment, and the second phase of naturalization of Vernon Creek at Polson Park.
