RCMP on the lookout for man jumping into Vernon traffic

Police are looking for a man who they believe is linked to two separate incidents in which a person walked or jumped into traffic in the past two days

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is searching for a man believed have twice walked or jumped in front of cars in the past two days, the latest talking place Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

Mounties have had two reports of a man walking or jumping in front of cars in Vernon over the last two days, and they're searching for the man they believe is behind both calls. 

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP received a call about a man jumping into traffic in the 4400 block of 32nd Street around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, media relations officer Cpl. Tania Finn said in an email. Officers went to the area and found the man, who appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested and held in custody until he sobered up.

The man spoke to an officer and nurse from the RCMP's Integrated Response Team before being released. 

Then on Wednesday morning, around 11:45 a.m., police received another call about a man screaming at cars and walking into traffic near the 2100 block of 32nd Street, near Vernon Jubilee Hospital. The man left before police arrived. 

"Based on the information received, police believe this to be the same individual as the previous incident and are currently attempting to locate him," Finn said.
