B.C. RCMP officers began wearing body cameras late in 2024.

Police officers across the South Okanagan and Similkameen will soon be wearing body cameras.

In a press release last week, Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional RCMP said it will "soon" be introducing body-worn cameras to officers' uniforms.

RCMP began rolling out the new equipment to B.C. detachments in November 2024.

"These cameras have become the national standard and the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen RCMP are excited to be deploying them soon," the press release reads.

The detachment did not provide a date for when officers will begin wearing body-worn cameras.

B.C. RCMP says the cameras will enhance transparency and accountability while providing a "first-person view of what police officers encounter daily."

"The roll-out of body-worn cameras is part of the RCMP鈥檚 modernization efforts and is the national standard for all RCMP officers across the country," said John Brewer, assistant commissioner of RCMP in the province.
