Vernon RCMP investigate crash seriously injuring pedestrian

Senior woman suffers life-threatening injuries after being hit in crosswalk

RCMP were on scene for several hours Saturday, Jan. 27 investigating a crash at Silver Star and Pleasant Valley roads.

A senior is suffering from life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle Saturday.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is investigating the collision that took place around 6:15 p.m., Jan. 25 at Pleasant Valley and Silver Star roads.

Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest the pedestrian was crossing Silver Star Road in the crosswalk when they were struck by a pickup truck making a left hand turn from Pleasant Valley Road onto Silver Star.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

The victim, a 71-year-old woman, was transported from the scene by BC Emergency Health Services with serious, life threatening injuries.

Speed, alcohol, and drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision.   

A member of the RCMP鈥檚 Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Service attended the scene and is assisting with the investigation.
