The long awaited return of the Esso Cup to B.C. is now just three months away.
It鈥檚 been 11 years since the Esso Cup last was in the province, and Vernon鈥檚 Thompson-Okanagan Lakers will be hosting the 2024 competition, from April 21-28.
The Canadian women鈥檚 U18 national club championship will see five regional champions from across the country join the Lakers to battle to win the esteemed cup.
Thompson-Okanagan will play their first game on Sunday, April 21 against the Atlantic winner at 7 p.m., following matchups between the West and Ontario champions and the Quebec and Pacific titlists earlier in the day.
The Lakers will also face the Pacific on April 22 at 7 p.m. Ontario on April 23 at 5 p.m., the West on April 24 at 10 a.m. and Quebec on April 25 at 7 p.m.
After each team plays each other once, the top four clubs will advance to the semifinals on April 26, with the gold and bronze matches tabbed for April 27.
Despite being the host team and getting an automatic berth to the championship, the Lakers will be a threat to compete for the cup. Currently, they are tied for first in the U18 AAA B.C. standings, in a dead heat with the Fraser Valley Rush, sporting identical 19-7-1-1 records. Last year, the Lakers lost to the Rush in the provincial final.
