As the fifth day of the Invictus Games came to a close, Canadian veterans, athletes and their families shared moments of laughter, tears and joy.
Competing against fellow service members from around the world, Canada had strong performances in alpine skiing and snowboarding.
Alpine skier Assunta Aquino claimed gold in the women鈥檚 intermediate-advanced IAS4 division with a time of 18.03 seconds. In the men鈥檚 IAS4 division, Mark Beare won bronze with a time of 18.52 seconds, while Mark Jones placed 12th and Alin Mirea finished 14th.
Janie Duguay and Adria Brochu delivered a proud moment for Canada in the women鈥檚 intermediate-advanced IAS1 sit-ski category, winning gold and silver.
In the men鈥檚 intermediate-advanced IAS2 standing ski event, Christophe Balayer pushed through the competition to place in the top 10 with a time of 22.73 seconds.
Closing out the day in Whistler, Jeffrey Becker won bronze in the Men鈥檚 intermediate-advanced Snowboarding ISB5 event. Becker crossed the finish with a time of 22.36.
As the Games continue, athletes are not just competing for medals but inspiring resilience and camaraderie.
The Games continue Thursday (Feb. 13) in Vancouver.
