Diego Maffia only started to realize he was doing something special when the 麻豆精选 crowd watching the game between Oak Bay High School and the Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds started to get loud.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 think it really sunk in until the end of the [fourth quarter] what was happening and the crowd was being loud that I had an idea of how many points I had,鈥� said the Brazilian-born Maffia.
Last year, he was the Most Valuable Player as Oak Bay won its fourth consecutive Vancouver Island finals. Maffia has also helped to lead the school鈥檚 soccer team to success.
Maffia finished the game with 96 points 鈥� a new record by a British Columbia high school player. Nelson鈥檚 Greg DeVries held the previous record with 82 points scored in 1991.

Saturday鈥檚 game was part of the 46th annual Western Canada Basketball Tournament held in 麻豆精选, featuring eight teams.
