An Okanagan takeover is set to flood Trinity Western University (TWU) in Abbotsford next year.

Two dynamic guards, Mavleen Chahal and Moriah Jansen, will be joining the Spartans next year to compete at the highest level of post-secondary basketball in the country.

Chahal, from the 麻豆精选 Secondary School Owls, was officially announced as the newest Spartan on Thursday, Feb. 13.

"With her provincial team and BC high school 4A provincials experience, she is bringing a guard savviness and competitive edge that will continue to help our team move forward," said TWU head coach Cheryl Jean-Paul. "Our home court is already so familiar to her, and with her offensive toolkit, she鈥檒l find her stride at our level quickly as she spends more time with our program."

Chahal recently competed for the U17 B.C. Team in the summer.

"The success of our former U17 provincial team members has been program-changing, both on the court and in the classroom, so we look forward to the new standards this generation will be able to achieve," Jean-Paul said.

"TWU has a great team culture as well as school culture that I can鈥檛 wait to be a part of," said Chahal, whose Owls are currently in the top Okanagan spot at the AAAA level. "I鈥檓 wanting to go into business at TWU and the business program at TWU is very well respected so becoming a Spartan is definitely the best fit for me.鈥

Joining the KSS guard in Abbotsford is Salmon Arm's Jansen, who has led her Kings Christian School team to a top-six ranking in the province at the A level. The team is seeded first and will be hosting the Okanagan Valley Championships from Thursday, Feb. 13 to Saturday, Feb. 15.

"It has been a privilege watching her growth trajectory over the years through Basketball BC鈥檚 provincial team and high-performance programs," said Jean-Paul after the signing of Jansen back in June 2024. "She will be a catalyst who will help our program achieve new heights and is capable of making great things happen.鈥

Both players were also selected to the All Canadian Games watchlist, two of 97 athletes from across the country. The All-Canadian Games will showcase the top 24 girls and boys Canadian basketball players set to graduate high school in a televised match on TSN. Watchlist players will undergo three rounds of voting before the final list of 24 is announced.
