Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ Chiefs come away with loss, win from KIJHL weekend action

After getting kicked by the Williams Lake Mustangs Friday (Nov. 15) night, the Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ Chiefs beat the Fernie Ghostriders Saturday.

The Chiefs were up 1-0 late in the first period against Williams Lake when the Mustangs reeled off five straight goals, in the second and third periods, three of them on the powerplay. Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ got one back late in the third but by then it was too late they fell 5-2. 

Owen Ivanov (7) and Murphey Jensen (3) scored for the Chiefs, with both goals coming on the powerplay. Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ outshot the Mustangs 44/33 and went 2/6 on the powerplay.

At home on Saturday night (Nov. 16), Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ was up 3-1 over Fernie until the Ghostriders went on a three goal tear, including a penalty shot goal, and held a 4-3 by 10:03 of the third period. The Chiefs scored five minutes later to force overtime, and got the overtime winner, on the powerplay, at 1:04 of the extra frame for the 5-4 victory.

Ben Henshall (4), Ivanov (8), Luke Rishaug (6), Matt Fraser (2), and Jake Kessler (2, overtime winner) scored for Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡.

The Chiefs were outshot 51/39 and went 1/3 on the powerplay while Fernie was 0/7. Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ sits in last place in the Bill Ohlhausen Division with a record of 7-8-0-2-0 and 16 points.

The Chiefs’ next game is Saturday, Nov. 23 when they host the Princeton Posse at Rutland Arena. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
