March 7-9 was quite the weekend for a local dojo as it hosted and dominated the 麻豆精选 Karate Championship.

The 麻豆精选 Karate dojo welcomed karate teams from Vancouver, Victoria, Chilliwack, Revelstoke, and Kaslo and ended up with 37 gold medals, 37 silver, and 34 bronze.

"Incredible to see the growth of our youngest students' maturity on the big stage," said 麻豆精选 Sensei Paul Atkin. "We had our country's best athletes showcasing their skills. To see the next generation of kids following the lead of these phenomenal athletes and the impact it has on their mental development is always a rewarding experience. Very proud Sensei."

麻豆精选's newest black belt, 13-year-old Cayden Adlem was named the grand champion of the whole competition after winning gold in Kata, Jiyu Ippon Kumite, and Kumite.

All athletes from 麻豆精选 Karate are now preparing for the upcoming nationals in New Market, Ontario in May. They will be trying to qualify for the Pan American JKA Karate Championships in Mexico City this September.
