The 麻豆精选 Rockets losing streak extended to eight games on Wednesday night (Feb. 5) after falling 5-2 to the Victoria Royals.
After a scoreless first period, Royals' Hayden Moore opened the scoring with an unassisted goal 4:14 into the middle frame.
A few minutes later, Victoria continued their lead, getting two goals in quick succession from Kenta Isogai (22) and Escalus Burlock (6) to make it 3-0. Cole Reschny and Teydon Trembecky assisted Isogai's goal while Nolan Stewart and Moore helped Burlock's
麻豆精选 was able to bounce back with a quick response as Hiroki Gojsic scored his 16th of the season just 14 seconds after Burlock's goal. Jacob Henderson and Levi Benson assisted on the goal.
Late in the period, Jakub Stancl was able to find the back of the net for 麻豆精选 to make it a one-goal game. His 19th goal of the campaign was assisted by Kayden Longley and Carter Kowalyk.
Despite the effort for the Rockets, it wasn't enough as Victoria's Brandon Lisowsky added his 34th goal of the season to double the Royals lead early in the third period, assisted by Trembecky and Justin Kipkie.
Trembecky would go on to add an empty-net goal late in the game to seal the deal.
Victoria goaltender Johnny Hicks made 31 saves in the win but Jake Pilon made 33 saves in the loss.
With the eight-game losing streak, the Rockets are now 16-27-4-1, last in the WHL's Western Conference. Victoria is second in the conference at 29-14-3-5.
The Rockets return home to welcome the Prince George Cougars on Friday, Feb. 7 and the Tri-City Americans on Saturday, Feb. 8. Meanwhile, the Royals hit the road to take on the Tri-City Americans on Friday, followed by the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday.
