Vernon's Sharon Morrison, Spallumcheen's Ina Forrest, and 麻豆精选's Gerry Austgarden would like a higher colour of medal in 2025.
The trio is headed back to the Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championships April 28-May 3 in Quebec after capturing the Gary Cormack Memorial Cup B.C. championship Feb. 22 and 23 at the Delta Thistle Curling Club.
Morrison is the coach for Team Austgarden, skipped by Gerry Austgarden of 麻豆精选, which swept the best-of-three provincial final over Team Smithies, skipped by Austgarden's former teammate Marney Smithies of Delta.
Forrest plays third for Austgarden, and the front end is made up of second Rick Robinson of Surrey, and lead Glen McDonald of Cloverdale. The team won bronze as B.C. champs at the 2024 Canadian finals in Moose Jaw.
The quartet won the opening game of the 2025 provincials, 10-3, starting the match by scoring four in the first end, then stealing another point in the second for a 5-0 lead.
The second game was much tighter.
Austgarden needed a single point in the seventh end to tie the game, then stole the winning point in the eighth and final end for a 9-8 victory. Both teams qualify for the national finals.
Forrest and Austgarden, along with Vernon's Sonja Gaudet, were teammates of Cormack representing Canada at the 2008 World Wheelchair Championships in Switzerland, finishing fourth.
Austergarden, Gaudet, and Cormack won gold in 2006 at the Paralympics in Italy, and finished fourth the following year at the World finals in Sweden.
Cormack died in Surrey in 2024 at age 74.
Forrest, selected to play for Team Canada, won a silver medal at the 2024 World Wheelchair Finals in South Korea.
