Professional wrestling is back in Falkland for the first time since 2008.
Big West Wrestling (BWW) will make its debut at the Falkland Community Hall on Friday, Feb. 2.
BWW is a 2011-founded promotion that was originally based in 麻豆精选. It has since runs shows in Enderby, Summerland, Golden and the Sunshine Coast.
Marty 鈥楳ad Dog鈥 Sugar, the journeyman wrestler and promoter, has been trying to get a show in Falkland since the last appearance on May 9, 2008.
鈥淚鈥檝e been turned down so many times, but I refused to give up on Falkland,鈥 Sugar said. 鈥淭he hall is beautiful, and the town deserves some fun and unique entertainment.鈥
According to Sugar, BWW has 鈥渟pent the last twelve years cementing our legacy as family-friendly entertainment. We have colourful characters, exciting storylines, and lots of hard-hitting action inside the ring. Kids of all ages love what we bring to town.鈥
The event will feature Big West Internet Champion, Shawn Murphy, who was trained by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar, Seth Rollins. Murphy was born in Ontario, but now lives down on the Lower Mainland. Having only debuted last year, Murphy has taken the B.C. wrestling scene by storm, and has a very bright future ahead of him.
The show also features The Nolerbear, who is the reigning Totally Arctic Wrestling (TAW) 鈥淣orth of 60鈥 Champion. Based out of Inuvik, Northwest Territories, TAW is the most-northern wrestling promotion in the entire world, and its core wrestlers are all proud indigenous competitors.
Not only did Marty Sugar train the initial crop of wrestlers to get the promotion started, he was the company鈥檚 inaugural champion back in 2021.
鈥淣olerbear is a literal beast,鈥 Sugar said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 out there in -40 C weather, chopping wood, building traditional indigenous homes, being a volunteer firefighter, and being a positive role model for his community and his people. He鈥檚 got so much potential in wrestling, and in life.鈥
The heart pounding action gets start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 online, or $15 cash at the door. More information can be found at BigWestWrestling.com.
