The head coach and general manager of the Summerland Steam junior hockey team has tendered his resignation from the club.
A note from the Steam, dated Dec. 26, said Morten Kjolby resigned in order to tend to a personal matter.
鈥淭he hockey club wishes to thank Morten for his efforts both on the ice and in the community during his time with the organization,鈥 the message stated.
Assistant coach John DePourcq will take on the role of head coach while Steve Hogg, the former general manager, will resume the role of general manager on an interim basis.
DePourcq had earlier served as head coach of the Summerland Steam.
Everett Scherger will continue as assistant coach and Trevor Aubie will join the staff as an assistant coach for the remainder of the hockey season.
Kjolby had joined the team as the head coach for the 2023-2024 junior hockey season.
Kjolby arrived from Denmark and had a playing career in Europe before becoming a coach. He had coached in Denmark, Sweden and Spain.
DePourcq had been the coach of the Steam from 2012 to 2019 and lead the team to seven consecutive playoff appearances.
