It鈥檚 already been a banner year for Penticton field lacrosse teams and the ride isn鈥檛 quite over yet.
Local U11, U13 and U17 squads are off to the B.C. provincials in February, after emerging victorious over their Okanagan rivals in 麻豆精选 and Vernon on Oct. 29.
Kate Trahan, a development coordinator at the Penticton Minor Lacrosse Association, says it鈥檚 rare for three teams from the local organization to advance to the provincials in a single season.
鈥淓very year, there鈥檚 one team that shows to be really strong but this year, there were three and that鈥檚 great,鈥 Trahan said.
The U11 squad will play their provincial games in Nanaimo, while the U13 and U17 teams will compete in Richmond.
Local lacrosse teams will hit the field against representatives from each region of B.C.
What makes the situation unique locally, though, is that the field lacrosse season in Penticton only runs from September to the end of October. Most teams in the province, especially on the Lower Mainland, play through January, Trahan said.
That means some of Penticton鈥檚 provincial opponents will have more game experience leading up to the end-of-season tournament.
Minor lacrosse seasons province-wide vary in length, mostly due to funds and facility availability.
鈥淥ur teams are going to practice as much as they can until then and do our best,鈥 Trahan said.
The trio of local teams will serve as the Okanagan鈥檚 only representation at the provincials.
