In the cold province of Alberta, the West 麻豆精选 Warriors got back into the win column, but came out with a split.
On Friday, Jan. 31, the Warriors were looking for revenge against the Sherwood Park Crusaders, who they lost to in their game on Jan. 25. And they got their revenge, winning 5-3.
West 麻豆精选 did find themselves down 2-0 just over halfway into the game but a goal from Ian Alonso at the 14:30 mark cut the deficit in half. His sixth of the year was assisted by Nathan Drapeau and Joey Macrina.
The team's special teams came through in the second period as they got a powerplay goal from Kelsen Podworny and a shorthanded goal from Caden Kemkaran-Humble. Podworny's eighth goal of the campaign, helped by Tyler Grahme and Macrina. Kemkaran-Humble's goal was his second of the season and was assisted by Jackson Kyrkostas.
Just 1:21 into the third period, Sherwood Park tied the game when Jeremy Loranger scored his 25th goal of the season.
With just under eight minutes to go in regulation, Ben Miller scored his first career BCHL goal unassisted to give the Warriors a 4-3 lead.
In the final minute, Sam LeDrew added an empty-net goal, from Jack Farrell and Kyrkostas.
Bor Glavi膷 made 22 saves en route to the win for the Warriors.
The win gave West 麻豆精选 a 5-2-0-0 record in January.
However, February didn't get off to the best start as on Saturday, they fell 5-3 to the Spruce Grove Saints.
The first period was a busy one as the teams traded goals twice throughout the frame. After being down 1-0, Grahme scored his sixth goal of the season to knot the game back up. Late in the period, Spruce Grove retook the lead but 42 seconds later, Elias Callgren tied the game again with his fifth goal.
Spruce Grove's Josh Polak scored the only goal of the middle stanza to take a 3-2 lead but at the 8:06 mark of the third, West 麻豆精选 tied it once again when Simon Wang scored his first career BCHL goal.
But despite tying the game once again, Spruce Grove prevailed as Matheson Mason scored at the 16:08 mark and added an empty-netter to lead the Saints to the win.
Glavic was pulled after allowing three goals on 17 shots but Edouard Gauthier suffered the loss in relief despite making six saves on seven shots.
With the split, the Warriors sit seventh in the Interior Conference with a 15-17-5-2 record.
West 麻豆精选 now returns home and welcomes their northern rivals to town as the Vernon Vipers come to Royal LePage Place on Friday, Feb. 7, followed by the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Saturday, Feb. 8. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. both nights.
